PART I (A story about little Selver)

Dear Oprah,
Ten years ago a little boy from Bosnia , Selver Hidic was saved by getting the surgery he needed at Texas Children Hospital thanks to the good people of the United States of America . He has DiGeorge Syndrome and since he was born in a very poor family and financially challenged country where there was no way for him to get the medical attention that he needed, he was sentenced with only a couple of years of life - helpless to death. In order to give you a better understanding of DiGeorge Syndrome, its side effects and symptoms, the following excerpt was copied from one medical website: “DiGeorge syndrome (also called congenital thymic hypoplasia, or third and fourth pharyngeal pouch syndrome) is a birth defect that is caused by an abnormal chromosome and affects the baby's immune system. The syndrome is marked by absence or underdevelopment of the thymus and parathyroid glands. The specific facial features associated with DiGeorge syndrome include low-set ears, wide-set eyes, a small jaw, and a short groove in the upper lip….These defects usually become apparent within 48 hours of birth. The infant's heart defects may lead to heart failure, or there may be seizures and other evidence of a low level of calcium in the blood (hypocalcemia).”
Dear Oprah, little Selver is going to need a new graft (a type of prosthesis) implanted in his heart or his young life may become jeopardized.

PART II (A story about little Selver)
After the war that happened in Bosnia , his parents lost all possibilities of gathering enough money for him to come to the United States for the second out of four surgeries on his heart that he needs in order to have a childhood and grow up. As we already said, his parents had no possibility of sending him to the United States for the second surgery so it was done in Sarajevo by a doctor from Austria , and there was a 50:50 chance of succeeding. The unprecedented and tragic event of 9/11 made it even more difficult for Selver’s parents to come to the United States of America . It is almost time for Selver's third surgery and his parents have no way of getting the money they need for it. Darije Dobrovoljski is a gentlemen who lives and works in Austria and he wrote a book titled, "There, where love begins " (the book is written in the Bosnian language) and all the proceeds from the sales went for Selver’s surgery. In addition, lots of websites are following a story about this little, young and innocent child who is fighting to survive and people donated money from all over the world but that is still not even close to the amount that is needed for his surgery, which is why we really need your help. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
As we recall, you did a show that was dedicated to little kids from Bosnia that were operated in Houston , Texas , and it was a huge hit. With God's help we hope that you will get this letter and read it. Parents and friends from all over the world are hoping that your humanity, which you have shown up until now, will help little Selver get a chance to grow up and one day say: "Thank you, Oprah"
